The Killarney Parent Fundraising Society (KPFS) raises money to support the Killarney Parent Council’s (KPC) efforts to enrich Montessori education at Killarney School. Funds raised are invested in materials, initiatives and events that enhance the student experience. We strive to be a model example of a public Montessori school; where a community of students, parents and teachers work together to create an environment in which in the words of Maria Montessori, “give to each child the chance to fulfill his/her potential possibilities.”
KPFS is keenly aware of the importance of community support in helping our school thrive and we appreciate any financial assistance parents can provide. As parents of the school, we work to get the most value from all donations. Also we appreciate that time is valuable for families, so we ask for direct contributions only once per school year. This fundraising approach allows everyone to make the most of their time and donations. We do not ask Killarney families to sell anything during the school year. Although there may be an occasional bake sale event, you will not be asked to solicit your friends and family to buy perogies, chocolate almonds or subscriptions!
Each school year, Killarney families will receive a communication from the KPFS regarding the Annual Fundraising Campaign. We supply information on our fundraising goals, where the money may be spent, and a suggested donation amount. All donations are welcome and appreciated! We are able to accept online donations at our GoFundMe page or by cheque made out to the Killarney Parent Fundraising Society. Tax receipts are available, as we are a registered Canadian charity.
For the 2021-22 school year, we set an ambitious goal to raise $35,000 to benefit Killarney students. This year March was the fundraising campaign month and we were thrilled and grateful to raise over $27,000! Donations are accepted throughout the year through direct contributions, and employer programs like Benevity and the United Way.
Thanks to the generous contributions of our school community, we will be able to support the following initiatives this year:
Build a new “Outdoor Learning Commons” on the west side of the school grounds as part of our Killarney School Legacy Project.
Enhance our colourful courtyard with a new, painted basketball half court.
Revitalize our beautiful Peace Gardens on the east side with fresh mulch and plants.
Indoor and Student Learning Supports:
Purchase new laptops and technical equipment to support student learning.
Provide additional health & wellness-related supplies for a safer indoor environment, in-class teaching materials and equipment.
Funding for Artists-in-Residence, Science in Schools, educational program subscriptions (math and literacy based) and musical instruments. Funds are also directed to acquiring Montessori classroom materials and supplies to create an engaging learning environment for our students.
